End of the Semester Wrap-Up Part 2 - Color & Design

Part two of three of my semester wrap up, this time its Color and Design. Color and Design has a....reputation in the foundations department to be a hard class, and you'll be a slave to it all semester. The class is a lot of tedious work, but it wasnt all that much homework if you worked hard in class. Its also a painting class, and my first time working with gouache, which is as hard to say as it is to pay for (very expensive paint @_@) but its apparently the illustrator's paint of choice. By the end of the year Id beat it into submission and made it my art slave, but lets start earlier in the semester.

Major Project 1 - Portrait with Transparencies
We had to use color compliments for this assignment (R+G, B+O, Y+V), plus black and white for a full range of tones. The different colored parts ate the transparencies, and was trying for a Ziggy Stardust sort of lightning bolt because RDJr is/was a wild child.

 Second Major Project - Landscape
The landscape has such a nice black frame because it got submitted to the Winter Show! My school has two big art shows, The Spring Show which is school wide, but the Winter Show is only for foundations students. This was submitted and accepted, my first acceptance to a show!

Final Project - Mandala
My mandala is acctualyl a Christmas gift for a woman who runs a coffee shop in Japan. The shop is called 'Mr. English' (as her husband teaches english out of the coffee shop), and the repeating logo is the shop's. Technically I havent turned this in yet, its due this Thursday (16th), but my teacher is extremely impressed with it.

Part Three (Digital Media) to follow once I finish my pieces.

End of the Semester Wrap-Up Part 1 - Clothed Figure Drawing

So its almost the end of the semester, so I thought Id do a summation of each class individually. Firstly with Intro to Clothed Figure Drawing. Figure drawing is always a challenge for me, and adding clothes in only complicates things. Still, its an intro class, and I grew leaps and bounds between Intro and Intermediate Figure Drawing, Im expecting more growth next time I tackle the clothed figure.

Not technically part of my final, but part of one of my last homeworks. And yes, that is me, as I wasnt able to get ahold of a model (boo).

These next pictures are from the final portfolio in this class, I was asked to select 8 - 10 of my best drawings. Some photographed better than others, and these are the best of the best (believe it or not).
